Well, all dogs shed, but poodles have hair instead of fur, and so, like humans, they would only shed a couple strands each month or so. I'm quite sure Shi-Tzus are the same if not very similar, and they don't shed very much so surely a mix wouldn't shed much at all... therefore, grooming should be minimal, but still, a brush everyday is always required... you should brush your dog's hair like you brush your own hair. Bathing is still going to be necessary, maybe on a weekly or twice a weekly basis, but that's the bare minimum for most dogs. Good luck and have fun with your dog!

Shedding and grooming are not the same thing at all- all the "no-shed" breeds need MORE grooming than shedding breeds, because the loose hairs don't come out on their own. They NEED brushing.
Most Shih Tzus and Poodles need professional grooming (bath, brush-out, blow-dry, haircut, etc) every 6 weeks or so, with daily brushing for maintenance. If you don't get your dog groomed, it will get dirty, tangled, and be very gross, not to mention uncomfortable for the dog. Grooming is about more than shedding. If you are unable to commit to brushing, keep your dog shaved short.
This is what people don't seem to know about Poodle crosses- the various "doodles"- they are NOT low-maintenance dogs, though they shed less. You make up for that convenience in the amount of grooming needed to make them comfortable and presentable.

Some of the worst dogs we groom in relation to matting are shih tzu mixes, especially mixed with poodle as the different textures of their hair create matting almost instantly, especially if it gets wet while tangled at all.
They definitely shed and if not combed daily that shed hair will make matts literally overnight.
Speaking of wet, bathing once a week or worse yet, twice a week is overkill and will strip that coat of any natural oils which help prevent tangles and matts. DO NOT bathe if there are any matts without combing them out thoroughly first!!!
Daily brushing is a must with professional grooming every six to eight weeks.
