I was always told that the Harlequin was the largest of all great Danes. Is this true? If not which is bigger?

Harlequin is just a color. It is not related to size.

Be careful, there are color associated health risks in Great Danes.

I think harlequin is just a coat color.

Dieta

That is a coat color it has nothing to do with how big he is going to be.
Many breeds have different coat variations in color.

Great Danes range in coat colors...fawn, brindle, mantle, blue, black and harlequin.
Gibson the worlds largest Great Dane measured in at 42.2 inches at the withers and his coat color was harlequin, but this is not the norm.
If you are considering a Dane for a pet choose a male if you want a larger dog. Look for a GREAT breeder, see mom and dad, that way you will get a rough idea of what pup will look like and how large he will be at adulthood.
Have a good one.

Nope just a color. I have two one is a merlequin and she is petite and small for a 10 month pup and I have a 3 month old harlequin male and he is large for his age. Its all relevant based on genetics and any health issues. Just know they do see themselves as large powerful dogs they think they are small lap dogs and will try to sit on you and anything - children, cats, etc.

No specific color will guarantee a more massive or taller Dane. Often times people will believe that harlequins are bigger because of their color patterns. The patterns can play games with the eyes by making them appear larger but that is not the case.

Temperment and health concerns though do follow certain colors in Danes.

Duke

What you heard is the largest dog on record WAS a Harlequin Great Dane. He was 42" at the shoulder and Stood over 7 ft tall on his hind legs. The Harlequin Great Dane is no larger than a Mantle or Merle Great Dane...They are just Breed specific colors, nothing more. Be careful though Merle and Harlequin Great Danes do have more health concerns and problems than other color Great Danes.
