I read that potatoes can be toxic to dogs, how about sweet potatoes? I dehydrate them and feed a few pieces a day.

Potatoes are from the "deadly nightshade" family of plants... As are tomatoes. But it is the plant not the fruit that is toxic. Do not feed/eat green potatoes. No harm from the actual potatoe. I use potato flour in my grain free biscuits. Sweet potatoes & yams are fine for doggies. Mine love to share my sweet potato fries!

I have never read that potatoes are toxic to dogs. There are dehydrated sweet potato treats so you should continue to feed him homemade treats.
Onions/garlic/chocolate/alcohol are bad for the dog.

I have never read anything that says potatoes are toxic either. However, I do not feed white potatoes because they are fattening. Sweet potatoes are great, though. I feed sweet potatoes to my dogs and I also put them into my dog treats. Sweet potatoes are great for a lot of things including constipation, diarrhea, skin and coat, etc.

Cookies 'n' Creme (1998-2011)

There are commercial dog foods that use potato as a replacement for grains. I've fed a couple of those brands.
