DJ

I need advice on the easiest way to brush my Jack Russell Terrier's (DJ) teeth. He's a senior dog, I have cared for them

DOGS need help with mouth/gum/teeth care...

DJ was seen by his vet, actually once yearly for a check-up and vaccinations, and any other time their is a problem..the vet said his teeth are fine but very, very dirty, and the front canines are worn from playing rough while he was a pup and youngster

We use Enzadent, an enzyme tootpaste for dogs. It comes with a brush that you put on the finger. Libby really likes the chicken flavor a lot and it was not problem to get her to let me brush her teeth. If DJ is more resistant, put some of the paste on your finger and let him like it off first. Once he knows it's going to be delicious, he'll probably be less upset about the process. I gotta tell you, that stuff really helps out with funky doggy breath.

I both brush my dogs teeth , and i give them Greenies. I have both tooth brushes i can use on some of my boys, and the one you put on your finger and use it like a toothbrush. It does seem to help. I think the Greenies also help to get the plaque off of their teeth. I have never had to do this, but if they get to bad you may have to have work done by a vet to remove the stuff on the teeth.

We had this same issue with our mini Grayhound Trixie. Science Diet has a great food called "Oral Care" that really cleans the teeth! We really love the taste and my pack leader says our breath and teeth have improved 100%. It is a bit pricey though. You can also purchase a finger cot tooth brush (at pet store) and clean them yourself with baking soda and just a little salt mixed. Good Luck

Have you checked out PETfection Breath Freshener Spray? It is 100% Organic and Non Toxic and is great at controlling bad breath and bad teeth! If DJ is good about letting you in his mouth you can just put the spray on a cotton ball and wipe them off. This will help a lot with plaque build up. If he doesn't let you into his mouth easily, you can use the spray normally or spray onto a rawhide for him to chew on to help. You can check it out at www.myPETfection.com for more info. I think it works great! Good luck.
