A shy dog is not a problem to groom. I rather them be shy then nuts. Get your pups use to seeing new faces. Take her to a park where there are lots of people and other animals. Place her high on a table and brush her everyday to get her use to being handled. In no time she will be the best. I groom dogs and I have some pawrents who I allow to stay with there pup. Look for a place who will let you stay in the beginning util your pups trust the groomer. It's not a good idea to do this all the time as I have found when the pups maters are there by there side it' make my life harder especially when the master kisses and talks to the dog the whole time. They tihnk they are doing both of us a favor but it actually is more stressful...........good luck

socialization is a good idea. but a dog park is a bad idea because many owners do not supervise, or ask before touching your pet. you need a professional if you have never trained a dog yourself. i recommend entering a one on one class first, then after you have some basic obedience try a group class.

also, buy a muzzle. have it on hand just in case. this way if you can tell she is getting aggravated and worry about her biting, you can prevent this.

once she bites someone they will back off and she may learn this as a means to be left alone. you dont want her to learn this behavior. . so prevent it.

I really don't think a tranquilizer is a good idea, because it may make her sick or disoriented, which will make her even more scared.

I agree, the groomer might help her. Shinji was a rescue dog, and he used to be terrified of all people/animals that weren't my fiance or me. We left him at a boarding facility when we went on vacation where he was able to run around with other dogs, and when we came to pick him up, he was having a great time playing and barking. He can still be slightly skittish around new people, be he loves other dogs now.

Try taking her to an obedience class or somewhere else where she can socialize with other dogs and people. Dog parks are excellent for this, but depending on where you live, this is not a good time of year since many parks are closed and/or deserted.

No, I wouldn't suggest it. You may become reliable on it. I would suggest obedience classes with other dogs may make her more open. The groomer may even be a good experience.

She needs to be socialized. Have her pass by people at first, after a while get closer, and so on and so on until she is not nervous around them anymore. Long-haired dogs can be brushed by the owner. You just need a pin brush, a greyhound comb, and a matt splitter. I would wait until she was socialized to get her professionally groomed.
