I have a 9 month old male chihuahua. Is it okay for him not to have a companion???

I have a 9 month old Chihuahua named Roscoe. It's been great with just me and him. He's my firsy dog ever, and I've trained him. So, we have a good rhythm together. I wondering can puppies do fine by themselves or do they need a companion? Are companions necessary?

Seriously, I have known way, way too many people who had a wonderful relationship with a single dog but were talked into getting another and it did not work out.
Their dog didn't want another dog OR their dog completely stopped paying any attention to them and only responded to the other dog.
Often I wish I only had one dog, but I have many so I do as much as I can with each dog alone... car rides, hikes, etc.
It sounds like you and your dog are happy... IMO it's best to leave it that way.

Dogs need companionship, certainly, but it sounds like you're giving it to him already. They do not need another dog or animal around, no.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with only having one dog. Especially for your first. Find him some good doggy pals he can have play time with, or find a drop-in dog day care & he will have tons of fun.
Two dogs are three times the work. Only get another if you are prepared for that. It would be an injustice to both dogs if you do not have the time to devote to both of them.
Merry Christmas & enjoy your pup. Come make a dogster account & check the forums for lots of tips & advice/support if you need it.
