It takes time, patience and "Zen" to reform the over excited jumper. Sonny has been with us 11 months and I now can't remember when he put his paws on the counter (food excites him), or jumped on me when I came home. He learned we ignore jumping, but if he sits or lies down we pet and reward him. He frequently goes belly up for a tummy rub!

1. Remain quiet & calm, no matter what
2. Installing a sturdy pet gate so he can see, smell, but not jump on you
3. Train him to sit before anyone pets him - no exceptions
4. Reward heavily when he does! treats & get down on his level and pet CALMLY, ignore him if he stands
5. Watch for the day he sits without being asked - just for attention. Jackpot! reward and praise.

Key notes:
Use a hand signal for "sit" rather than a verbal cue. Any speaking makes dogs more excited
Don't ever push him off or thrash around to get away, that makes him think it's play

Dieta

if he is not a puppy and is physically fit per vet, I say exercise, exercise, exercise. a dog can drive you crazy if they don't have the proper outlet for their energy. making your house and soul miserable.
if this dog is an adult of at least 18 months you can bike ride with an attachment on bike, install equipment, wear gloves and helmet. Or do sports, frisbee, running, walking, hiking, fly ball, obedience classes, swimming, the list is endless
