I had my two dogs desexed yesterday they were fine and then one attacked the other...
one of them has always been a bit anxious and they were ok up until today and then sitting on the couch the anxious one growled and then lunged at the other one.
We separated them immediately. The one that attacks very quickly goes back to submission but not if the other one is around. The one being attacked retaliates but soon calms down.
They have never been like this towards each other before. We were sitting on the couch with them and they were trying to get on my lap. Could it be over protectiveness?
They are both female and from the same litter about 7 months old and english/american staffordshire bull terrier mix.
I don't know how we are going to reintroduce them, could it just be because they're sore after the surgery?

I think some of the newer anesthetics are safer, but leave the dogs confused for a day or 2. I would keep them apart another day and then try it. if there are problems, wait another day.

perhaps they are guarding.
Perhaps they are jelious of one another.
I would make sure they are not in the same situation so that it doesn't keep re-occuring.
Also, you said both females but recently spayed. That makes me think of possibly.. they were getting ready or started to increase in time with an ovuation(Heat cycle) so give them another Two months to be safe to get some of the hormone level back down.
Keep them off the couches and kind of low key and see in a couple of months their hormones come down some. Some training seperately will help and getting them out on leash on some hiking trips will give them exercise and also have them in an unfamilar setting to relax in and for everyone for that matter.
Time to start training. Also, an obedience class would be helpful to add in. good luck.
