Husky blew out her summer coat but it's not filling back in two weeks later. She's acting very cold. Should I worry?
Lily is a 35 ib petite husky-shepherd mix, 3 years old, who I adopted about three months ago.
She blew out all of her long fur, which seemed to be normal enough, but now that the weather has gotten colder the fur she lost hasn't grown back in two weeks later.
Lily is usually outgoing and friendly, but now she's been trying to hide in blankets and curl up in a tight ball to keep warm. How long should I wait for her fur to start growing back in? Her coat is currently very short and isn't providing her much warmth at all.

Is the hair just short or does she have bald spots? If you post this question on the health forum on this site, more people will answer and we all can answer back and forth. We can't do that on this answer portion of this site. We can only post 1 answer. Good Luck!

I'd buy her a sweater (so cute!) and wait it out a couple more weeks. When Libby blew her coat this summer, it took a while to grow it back in. Ideally, they'd blow coat before it gets too cold, but being house dogs makes them delay a little bit, because they're nice and toasty inside. I don't know about where you live, but we've had a really mild fall season here in MI, so Libby's just starting to shed her coat. Last year, she waited until January, but mostly because she had A LOT of very pressing health issues when I first adopted her and I think she was just starting to get healthy enough at that time.
If you're really concerned, call the vet. Most won't charge to answer a question over the phone, and probably they know you're just getting to know this dog. Also, there are Dogster forums and groups just for husky owners, where people who are more experienced than me can make suggestions.
Enjoy your girl!

Hello,
I was raised with Huskies since a child to 23 Y/0
We live in NY and have the 4 seasons, I remember all the Huskies after blowing there coat, The new coat started to come back after a few days.
My current American Eskimo Blew his coat and 4 Days later I noticed his winter coat coming back.
As for Lily be cold and showing signs of this, I would be a bit concerned after two weeks as it may be something else else ie allegies or an immune diffiecncy. I would take her to the vet just to be on the safe side. I hope this helps and please do keep us post dated.
PS. Have you heard of just ask.com? They do have DVM'S to answer questions and you pay nothing unless you're 100% satisfied with there answers and suggestions, you may ask the DVM as many questions as you like untill you feel satisfied or not.
Best Of luck Chase and his Dad
