How would I teach my dog to approach strangers nicely?

My dog Riley will bark and growl at my friends when they try to approach him. Once in a while he'll act like hes going to bite at their ankles and jump on them which I don't allow. I tried holding him down and letting my friends gradually move slowly to him but he doesn't seem to like that idea. I also tried giving my friends treats to hand to Riley but he growls aggressively so I give up. I would just like my friends to be comfortable around him without getting bit or something.

Any ideas on how I could break this?

A solution for your problem, would be to spend more time to train Riley. You can try to command him "NO RILEY!" and give him a strict look, or say "BAD BOY!" If Riley has learned his lesson, then you can reward him with maybe a new toy or a treat! I suggest reading books about training dogs,or watch Dog Whisper. Goodluck!
