How to stop vicious behavior, calm down my dog.

My dog will almost always behave, and is normally playful or calm. But when it comes to picking him up for a bath, or feeding him, he will become vicious and territorial. He will growl and bite, but not in a playful way... he genuinely hates being touched when he is in moods like this. I'm not sure why he acts like this or how to make the behavior stop. He is a welsh corgi, medium sized for his breed, normally docile, but not with food. When he gets into a bad enough mood he wont even let anyone pet him without growling threateningly. He's bitten me and other people before, but it's more like he has a split personality then anything else.

Have you considered a canine behaviorist? They would be better able to figure out what is triggering the behavior, and whether it's motivated by fear, anger, pain, or really truly "out of the blue" as that could indicate brain damage.

Something that stood out to me, knowing his breed, he might be in pain. Corgis, as an achondroplastic breed (dwarfed) are prone to back problems and early-onset arthritis (in all joints). Picking him up or even touching him might be painful so he could be warning you.

Good luck, hopefully you find someone who can really diagnose and help you with him.

Not sure about the bath thing, but aggression with food or toys or things like that is resource guarding. Here's a pretty good article on that: www.paw
