How to stop puppy from jumping
My chocolate lab puppy is 8 months old. He gets so excited when he sees people he cannot contain his excitement and jumps on them. I try to make him sit, when he does and the person goes to pet him he jumps again. Help.

When he jumps - simply turn your back. COmpletely ignore him. When he jumps and you pet him or pay attention to him you're telling him the behavior is acceptable. You may even be inadvertently rewarding him. Keep turning your back and ignoring the jumping and then when he stops, if even for a second, praise him. When he starts again, go back to ignoring. Labs are looking for approval and when you with hold this approval he will quickly pick up on what you want. Its a start and takes a lot of work. Some dogs pick it up quicker than others. It took my lab puppy several days but she finally realized that if she didnt jump she got played with. She jumped, she got ignored. The fastest way to make this work is to NEVER allow the jumping while training. Its cute in a pup and sometimes fun to tap your chest and have your pup put his paws up. Dont. When you come home dont praise or give affection until hes not jumping. Everyone in the hosue needs to follow this. Those links have good info too.
