Some breeds have a reputation for being extremely ingelligent, such as border collies, for example.

But, really, it is all dependent on the individual dogs.

Schnauzers (adorable, adorable dogs!) have been bred from terrier stock, originally, and terriers are known for being very alert, hearty little dogs. A typical terrier personality is inquisitive, bold and a bit pushy, but friendly and smart.

Again, this is something that really is determined on an individual basis, though.

You can have really smart and not too bright dogs in any breed, or any combination of breeds.
