When my dog was a pup, he would bark and howl when we leave him in the crate at night. So to get sleep, most nights my husband and I would give in let him sleep with us in the bed. That settled him down so we figured, it wasn't the environment, it was the anxiety for company. After some time, my vet recommended that we exercise and tire him before bedtime and that worked too! Maybe when he gets over puppyhood (which is a while), it would be easier.
