How do we stop our pekingese from going bathroom in the house, since she will not go outside in the winter?

Our pekingese is a yr+ dog from resuce, and is housetrained, and a good dog. But now that the real cold days of winter have come, she won't go bathroom outside. She won't stay outside long. We cleaned off a spot of grass for her, and this worked at first, but the real cold has hit, teens & single digits, she won't do it outside. She has even pee'd on our son's matress. Any ideas of what we should do?

Well you could get some sod and put it in a kitty litter box. Show her where it is and praise her and give her a treat when she goes potty in it. No pads, papers or other training needed. She usually goes on grass so she will seek out grass to go on.

Our Cindy is exactly the same as your dog. She doesn't like to go outside.

So what we did was put a lil jumper on her. Take her to a spot where its not so windy and put a chair near by and sit outside with her (even take a newspaper:). I know its cold and I know its boring but if your outside long enough they normally will go to toilet.

Also if you have a command (ours is wee wee) say that).
If you show that you are willing to wait and she has to go a toilet before she comes back in she will normally go.

My dogs also only go to the toilet about 4 times a day if its cold (in the summer I haven't got enough fingers to count how many times they go:)))

Dont let her wander the house and if needs be restrict her movement to flooring that only needs to be wiped clean. She will learn.
