How do I teach my dog not to rush the door and jump up on ppl when they come in?

my 1 yr old pitbull puppy the second he hears someone at the door or coming up the steps at my parents if we are there he rushes the door or the steps. then goes to jump up on whoever it is. we really need to fix this in a bad way. any advice?
