How can I get my 5 month old husky to stop barking in his crate so early in the morning?

Shiloh doesn't seem to mind his crate when it's bedtime, but he always barks around 5 am, whether we put him to bed at 10 pm or midnight. I usually give him ten minutes, then if he's still barking, I'll let him out to pee and put him back to bed. He will bark sporadically until about 6 am. Then I can't stand it anymore and I have to let him out, feed him breakfast and send him outside to play. Why does he always bark so early in the morning? Does he hate his crate? How can I get him to like it? Our other dog, Otto, loves his crate. We trained both dogs the same way. What can I do to stop Shiloh's barking?

Its hard to say exactly why he's barking, but I can tell you how you can get him to stop the barking.

1. DO NOT give into him, he knows by barking he'll get let out, make sure you let him out to go before he goes to bed, and do not feed him after 8 at night, put the water away at 9.

2. Everytime he is quiet in the crate give him a treat, he'll learn that he gets treats when he's quiet for the night.

3. Leave a toy in his crate so he'll like being in his crate, also make it comfy by placing towels, blankets, dog beds or large pillows for him to sleep on, my siberian Sierra loved her crate, she learned how to unlock it and stayed in it whenever she wanted! Good luck!

When the sun gets up, so does every puppy. Parents of small children have the same question.

My first dog (Truffle, Choc Lab) woke up at 5:32 every day, and insisted I join her. High energy, smart dogs like your Husky, are ready to get moving!

I think you just need to get up and nap later when the puppy does.

As he matures he will not pester you to get up so early.

Good luck!!! Unless my guys are in a North facing room with the blinds drawn tight, they are up at sunrise.
When they wake up the only choice with mine is to get up and put them out.
I do feed at night so they aren't getting up early because they are anticipating breakfast, which happens with many dogs.

At 5 months, he is still a baby and does not know he is to sleep until later. As he gets older, he should be able to sleep later. I like the ideas about putting him in a darker room so he does nto know it is daylite. That could help alot.
