Hi, my parents have a Maltese X Shitzu, how do they get him to stop jumping on their car while they go out?

lol he wants to go too!!..he shouldnt be outside while they go away..?before they leave they should bring him inside ....if they are bringing him with them and hes jumping its because hes excited..keep him on a leash and correct him when he jumps..when hes calm..praise him then..dont speak to him to get him excited about a car ride..good luck

I agree with Tessa, he definately should not be left alone outside while they're gone, weather they're gone two days or five minutes. As for the jumping, he needs some training. Do not be cruel during his training, because the poor dog is suffering emotionally through separation anxiety. He obviously loves your parents very much, so he does not want to be separated from them. It is the same thing as when the human toddler cries when separated from their mother, only in dogs. Make sure your parents do not hit them or give in and take him with them to places that are not dog friendly. Suggest that they hire a pet sitter to watch him while they're gone. If you are present, before they even get in the car take him inside and distract him by playing with him and petting him. Hope this helps!
