I'm so sorry, I would feel the same way if I lost my little guy. If you really want to know why I guess you could have someone look at him.

Burkett's Cookies 'n' Creme

I recommend having her vet do an autopsy, if you haven't burried her already.

So sorry to hear of your loss. The only way to find an "answer" to your query would be a necropsy by your vet. Given the breed and the symptoms described, along with the rapidity of death, my first inclination would be bloat. But it could have been a host of other ailments as well (all those you mentioned in your post are possibilities).

Our thoughts are with you...

Little Bear

I'm so sorry at the loss of your beloved girl. Those of us that have given our hearts to our four-legged friends understand your loss and know you are mourning an important family member. One of my dogs became ill quite suddenly and exhibited a lot of the same symptoms you mentioned. He was 13 and I thought perhaps his kidneys had suddenly failed. His vet indicated to me his pale gums and unquenchable thirst were a sign of internal bleeding. I was shocked. I thought that could only happen if he had some type of traumatic injury. The vet told me that no, often cancer causes the internal bleeding which causes organs to shut down. Do not torment yourself on the cause of your beloved girls' death. Try to focus instead on the wonderful five years you had together. Take comfort that her spirit lives on and she forever owns a piece of your heart.

Snickers

Given that she was fine all day and then suddenly had trouble breathing, and was a Mastiff, it was heart failure. While 5 is very young the average age is only 7 or 8 for many of these giant dog breeds.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can imagine how cheated you feel when a beloved companion dies before it's time.

♥ DEOGIE ♥

Ah I am so sorry. Losing a beloved pet is heartbreaking. I think people always want answers in cases like this but having an autopsy done is something a lot of people can't afford, so the question of why is never answered. I wish I could help you with some type of closure, but I have no idea or guesses why your mastiff suddenly passed away.
Your in my thoughts.

Dieta

You can let the vet do an ecropsy or let the vet send the dog for one.
That way you can determine how or what caused it the dog was young so I would want to find out if it were me. (do you think she got bloat from eating then running too much)
I am deeply sorry this happened, many dog prayers, Dieta

Honey Pie Oh My (IN MEMORY OF

It sounds like it could have been bloat. Sooo sorry for your loss :( a necropsy from the vet (like a human autopsy) would give a definate answer but will likely cost you around $200.00.

Ace

I am so sorry for your loss. How terrible. I doubt it was cancer, because you would have seen her being sick long before now I think. If you take her in to be cremated, ask if maybe they can give you some ideas of what may have happened. Could have been a heart problem like you said too. Or maybe a heat stroke depending on how hot it was outside in your area. Hope you feel better.
