For the past 2 weeks my Maltese has been deficating in the house then eats it. Why is he doing this, how do I stop him! Also for the past 3 days he will start yelping for no apparent reason then stand there very stiff, hunched up back (like a cat) and trembles. This will last for a few minutes. The trembling can last for up to 15 minutes, then he will be fine. At first I though he was some how hurt. But when he is calm there are no signs of any kind of physical trauma. I have read about CDS (Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome)or Old age disease (he is now 8). Sounds like some sort of Dementia. He has about half the symptoms. I realy could use some help here. I'm unable able to take him to the VET at this time for what sounds like a pretty hefty cash work up. Thank you. Sharon

Sorry, but this is one for your vet. It definitely sounds like a physical thing, since it came on suddenly. You really do need a senior work-up so you know what is going on.

You will really need to find some way to get up the cash to take him to the vet. There could be a number of things going on, which nobody on here would be qualified to diagnose, nor could even do without tests. He could be in the early stages of seizures, which only a vet could diagnose and/or medicate. I mean, there could be SO many things going on... You could apply for pet care credit (the vets have the # for this service), and make monthly installments.
