Dogue de Bordeux skin complaints...any info?
My parents have a 2 and half year old Dogue de Bordeux, he has a serious skin condition and has to be on steroids, but the vets have no real answer to the cause of it! He has patchy bits all over his back and sides and is very dandruffy! It all started with him licking his paws, sometimes it gets infected and he has what look like white head spots, especially under his back legs! It isnt fleas or mites or any dust allergy! Any ideas please?

Have they tried changing his food? Sometimes they are allergic to something in their food. Try something with less/no grain and less filler. If that doesn't work, try a different protein. It takes a few weeks to see if its the food. Good Luck!

I agree with Kali..diet could be a huge factor. Trying a limited ingredient, grain free, food may help. Many dogs with allergies do well on a raw diet. There is some excellent info on the Raw Forum on Dogster's main forums page.
Did the vet give any kind of diagnosis? Do the steroids help? How often is he bathed? Could he be reacting to either the shampoo, or too frequent bathing?
Just throwing things out there, as there is not a lot to go on here. Maybe repost this in the Health Forum..more people will see it.
