Dog dropping toys down stairs?
Has anyone ever heard of dogs dropping toys off high surfaces? My Papillon has been doing this since he was a puppy. He'd always climb on beds, couches, etc and drop his toys off. I first I thought he did it for attention or because he wanted me to pick them up for him, so I ignored it. He continued to do it every once in a while. Well about a year ago we moved into a two story house and he discovered the stairs! I first found him doing this one day when I was in the upstairs loft and kept hearing things bounce down the stairs. Sure enough, I found him at the top dropping his kong down the stairs. Once he noticed me he immediately can up to me, interrupting his play session. Since then I've caught him doing it plenty of times. He seems to only do it when no one is around. Is he just doing this for fun? Has anyone heard of/seen dogs doing this?

Yeah, mine does this for fun, too. I need to find his ball, he lost it...
Anyway, he'll stand at the top of the stairs and drop the ball just to watch it bounce down.

When they drop the toy, it may bounce and move a bit. It is almost like it is alive and moving. It is just part of their play and having fun.

Sure, pretty normal, the toy bounces, rolls, moves a lot being dropped. I imagine that just like a near toddler to toddler will drop a cup or toy from the stroller, high chair, etc... dogs find whatever happens amusing. (You getting it for them or chasing it themselves or, just watching it move in ways they didn't know would happen.

It's completely normal!
My puppy does that all the time. She tried other toys but realized her kong bounces every which way down the stairs so she always uses that now.
She also likes when I'm at the top of the stairs with her, she drops it, and we both run down and try to get the kong before the over one.
Anyway, it's just an interesting way of your dog entertaining himself while your not around!
