Does anyone know if Pressed Rawhide bones from China are safe?

Are pressed rawhide "bones" made in China safe? They are readily available and cheap- are we harming our dogs by letting them chew these? They DO swallow pieces of them. We have a big supply- but WOULD throw them away in a second if they are BAD!!

Rawhides aren't generally safe, unfortunately.

The cowskin (or other animal skins) used in rawhides are usually already contaminated by tanning or softening chemicals long before they end up as strips recycled for dogs.

Doesn't really matter where they come from, but I'd assume China is even worse, based on the carcinogenic chemicals that seem to be in lots of exports for dogs.

I'd not give my dog a rawhide. I'd rather give him some natural jerky or even just a rogz bone or a kong filled with peanut butter.

Chemicals aside, the person who said that the rawhides are indigestible are right; they basically have to rot in the gut because they are not digested in the normal way.

Not great, all around!

NO rawhides are good for dogs no matter where they come from!! Rawhides can become lodged in the intestines and require emergency surgery. Or worse, rawhides can kill the dog if the obstruction is left undiagnosed and/or untreated.
There are too many good treats out there to feed your pup so skip the rawhides! :)

I am not a big rawhide fan. But if I were to give them as a treat, I would make sure they were made in the U.S.A. Many other countries do not have the same regulations and may treat the rawhides with fromaldehyde or arsenic. IMHO, rawhides from China are not safe.

Depending on how large the pieces are that your dogs are swallowing, you may want to reconsider giving rawhides all together. Obstructions are not fun.

i agree with the other posters, i dont give my dogs rawhide no matter where they came from... they are not safe

you could try bully sticks, they are more expensive but i have to say my pups love them, they get all mad when i take them away when they get too small, but they are a great chew and the pups love them.

If your dog has the desire to chew, get his/her some carrots to gnaw on. They are healthy and they usually like them.
