Does anyone have any advice for making a career move from the corporate world to the pet-world? I'm interested in explor

I am a consultant in Chicago with career background in marketing and client service. I'm looking for ideas for exploring career options in the pet industry without sacrifcing pay (Chicago is an expensive place!) while somehow contributing to the pet world on a daily basis.

Any ideas?

I also work in the corporate world and would LOVE to work with pets.. but let's be realistic..unless you are a biologist or have your PhD.. it is highly unlikely you will be making the same money!! If working with pets paid a lot of money than EVERYONe would do it. If you are really serious than your best bet would be to start your own business.. who wouldn't love to own their own pet supply store or something of that sort? But it takes a lot of money and a lot of work to get something like that going and successful. I used to think it would be fun to start my own dog grooming salon... that is something that would be relatively cheap to start up.. you just need to get your name out there and that's where your marketing experience would come in handy! I pay $70 at petsmart to get my dog groomed..just think how much you could make once you got your business started... the expenses of operating something like that are extremely low...

Before you do anything, have you thought of volunteering at a shelter. Contacting a local rescue, maybe they would have something that would apply. Of course this would pay nothing, but you could see if this is something you really want to pursue.

What about getting a part time job at a groomers, pet bakery, or something of the like.

The thing with pets, is you really must be a people person.

Good luck, I hope something good comes your way.
