My vet said to mix 3/4 of one with 1/4 of the other.
I can't remember which one is which. My vet closes
early on Friday & Bella needs them cleaned.
I hope someone can help me. Also does anyone
know if I can clean the kittens ears with the same
solution?

I at a vet student and how I learned is you just dip a cutip (we made them by using forceps and cotton and they had a soft tip) in the alcohol and then you go straight down DO NOT CURVE and thats it.

Please don't use EITHER of these to clean the dog's ears.

You need a new vet. Vets have not been advocating alcohol anywhere near the ears since the 1950s.

Alcohol can inflame, irritate and burn the delicate ear tissue, as can vinegar. Both of these substances can also cause permanent deafness if they seep down deep enough and burn the tissue in the inner ear.

I really question the integrity of a vet who would advise that you use either of these.

There are specially prepared ear cleaning formulas that are much safer and won't burn the dog. Virbac is a good one, as was mentioned.

Also, never use q-tips or anything long in the ear. Just use cotton wool or a cotton ball to soak up the excess while you massage the base of the ear where it goes into the neck.

I buy it from Virbac or Hartz and I have noticed less whining from my dog and the smell is nicer after it dries. She hates the vinegar mix for some reason. You can find the ear cleaning solution at pet shops any day of the week.
Ohh plus...I have noticed it is easier to dry.

My vet said 50 % vinegar /50% water. Alcohol is drying and will cause irritation.
If you disagree with me, please go easy on the alcohol and er on the safe side of your mix and go with 1/4 alcohol!!!

Another vet told me to use baby oil.Yup, baby oil. Sounds crazy but it also works!

The vinegar is usually the more diluted, so it's probably 3/4 water, 1/4 vinegar.
