Do bulldogs have seizures?
My bulldog acted fine one moment and then he fell over and started shaking uncontrollably. He was starting to have a bowl movement and just fell over. I called the vet and no vet today!

Yes, they can. Any dog can. But in case you're wondering--no, it's not normal.

Bulldogs are one of the many breeds where hereditary epilepsy occurs. These seizures normally start between the ages of 18 months to 30 months.
While you will want to talk to your vet about this event, assuming your dog is now normal and fine, you do not have to run him off to an emergency clinic. In most cases, no treatments will be started for a first time seizure, especially in a seizure prone breed. Blood tests and neurological exams will rule out any medical condition which may have caused the seizure, but in true hereditary idiopathic epilepsy, there is seldom anything found wrong in these tests. Meanwhile, keep a log of when the seizure happened and what was happening when they occured, if he has any more. Treatment usually is started when a dog has cluster seizures or very frequent seizures.
I have an epileptic dog. He has only one or two seizures a month so is on no treatment. He has been 5 yrs with no changes.
