Hello!! Recently my Aussie started digging close to where a plant was a long time ago. He usually just gets out some roots that look like balls and plays with them for a while. It doesn't relly bother us since there is no damage where he is digging but I want to know if he is bored or is something Aussies like to do?? He usually also buries some chewing sticks we bought him and then digs them out a couple of days later.

Just a suggestion but I would make a sandbox/dirtbox and bury some treasures in there for him. An area where he is allowed to display this behavior. I know you said it's not a big deal and he isn't ruining things but also realize this is a new behavior so if it goes unchecked it might continue into something destructive. Might as well be pre-emptive. He's not bored, well he was, but this is what he found to do to entertain himself, he's digging for a goal, finding a treasure, playing with it, then on to the next one.
