The only way to tell for sure if she is pregnant at 4 weeks is to have your veterinarian do an ultrasound scan. There is no other reliable way to tell. Some swelling of the mammary glands and abdomen can occur whether or not she is pregnant because most dogs have a certain degree of false pregnancy when they ovulate, even if not bred, especially as early as one month after ovulation An xray can show pregnancy AFTER 58 days in whelp since the skeletons of the whelps will have begun to calcify by that time...prior to that time only an ultrasound scan will show the fetuses. Keep in mind that an xray IS dangerous to developing fetuses just like it is to developing human babies so it should definitely NOT be done unless absolutely necessary to determine if the dog is really pregnant LATE in the pregnancy. With only one fetus or with a large, heavy dog it is often difficult to tell for sure without an xray done around the last week of pregnancy.

Okiedokies. The two photos you gave look about the same. I'm not sure when a dog starts "showing", so can't help much there. (98% of what I know about dog breeding right now is booklearning, and it's been a while since I read up on it.) As suggested above, having a vet check this out is a good idea. If you can find one that specializes in canine reproduction, even better.

Was this an accidental pregnancy? Just asking...please do not take offense, but if the breeding was planned, next time please make sure you really do your research before breeding your dog. Things like gestation period are part of the very basics of the subject. There's much more, and it's important to know the subject well because so much can go wrong.

Anywho, I hope things go well for you and your dog. =)
