Chihuahua crying at night

My husband has a 3 yr old male chihuahua that he had before we were married. He use to sleep in the bed with us, but per my request, he now sleeps on a dog bed in the room. Recently, the dog has taken to crying incessently at all hours of the night and wanting out of the bedroom for either food or to go outside and stand there. Food is available to both the dogs (chihuahuas) at all times during the day. Shots/worming/all vet visits current. I believe this is a behavioral issue, but would like a second thought. For the record, both dogs are horribly spoiled and not much I (am permitted) can do about it.

Did you then move the dog right out of the bed and into a dog bed say few meters away from the bed?

you could try doing the same thing owners do when they bring a puppy home.
have the dog on your husbands side of the bed and when he starts crying you husband can put his hand down to the dog. and slowly with time(may take a week or less) move the dogbed further and further away your bed. untill the dog can sleep soundly.
