Changing to a new type of dog food
Hey again!
My puppy beagle is 14 weeks old i currently feed him with Royal Canin, the food he was fed with until we got him. It is my chance now as I am half way through the bag to start mix it and change him to another type of food. I have heard mixed opinions about Royal Canin. I am considering changing him too Natural Balance. Does anyone know which one is better? or if theres anything even better then that? It is very important to me to keep the dog on a healthy diet and exercise him a lot. Thanks!

Hi there!
The best thing to do is to read the ingredient labels of the food. As Dieta noted, you should avoid corn - and I would add, wheat and gluten, as they can cause allergies. Also avoid any "protein digest," as this is protein that has been rendered by chemically dissolving leftover meat off the bones (eww!)
Some brands that have good quality are Solid Gold, Taste of the Wild, Wellness, Inova, Lotus (Katie likes this brand), and Blue Buffalo (this is a fairly new brand).
Dogster has a forum on feeding raw, if you really want to learn about alternatives. Sometimes I cook for Katie - when chicken is on sale, I boil it until it falls off the bones, which I toss out, then add barley, rice, carrots, sweet potatoes, and turnips (or some combination of those ingredients).
Hope this helps! Good luck!
Katie
