can worms grow in old dog poop??

I was in the back yard picking up poop and I saw worms in poop that has been out there for a while. Because it has rained and been muggy could worms or flys have grown in the poop??

As gross as it sounds, it is probably maggots. It is quite normal.

I agree with Bandit. It is very normal for flies and other insects to lay eggs in dog poo, even if it's been there awhile. Sometimes the eggs hatch within a few hours, and sometimes they hatch a few days later.

I wouldn't worry too much about it - but you might want to clean it up soon if you don't want a yard full of flies (or beetles, or whatever else they might be).
