I have a pitbull who is the biggest chicken and sweetest dog ever. I have one vet office that is near by and have been told that they do NOT see pitbulls.... is this legal? I know that some cities in other states do not allow pitbulls but that is not the case here.

They should take ANY domestic pet, if they are declining pit bulls that is REDICULIOUS!my vet The Camden County Animal Shelter in Black Wood NJ accepts all dogs and cats and creatures like pot bellie pigs, lizards, etc as long as they are domesticated, even mini ponies are allowed! Do a search on vets in your area

They can have their seperate policies in any state or town.
If there is law restrictions on pits then they can legally refuse to see you. Maybe in the state in which you live they have to by law have xxxxx amount of insurance in case the dogs bite someone in their facilty.
This is why we should keep UTD on breed legislation laws in each state.
I am sorry this happened I hope you find a vet to take care of him.
Also you can go to another state for medical treatment and shots. You do not have to stay within your state if they are making it hard on you for owning a pit bull.

It shouldn't be legal, but it probably is. Vet offices are private practices and they can exclude anyone they want. Often, insurance companies don't allow pit type breeds in businesses and some places won't even allow you to own a bully breed if you rent or are belong to a homeowner's association, regardless of whether or not the "breed" is technically legal.

It's quite ridiculous.

BUT.....if you want my honest opinion, I think you should look at this as a positive. Because any vet who makes decisions like this based on a breed doesn't know anything about dogs. And I'm sure you'd much rather know this now than before your dog might have been treated by people like this.

You may have to drive a bit further, but the care is probably going to be of a higher standard at a vet's office where they actually know something about dogs. :-)
