Shall I grab you by your neck? Would that hurt you?

There should be no reason to 'pop'a dog anywhere. You should have total control over your dog with your tone of voice. No physical popping, pulling skin on neck needed.

Why are you doing either of these things? If the dog is old enough to be without its mother, it's too old to be picked up by the scruff. Also please do not hit your dog on the nose. Aggression begets aggression. I suggest picking up "Before & After Getting Your Puppy" by Dr. Ian Dunbar for information on how to properly handle and train your puppy/dog.

You are aware that when you train a dog NOT to growl, you are removing its only warning signal before it bites!!
Why is it growling? I would suggest you find out what is making the dog grow and either remove her from that situation OR socialize her to it so she doesn't feel the need to growl. NEVER pop the dog anywhere, no, not even the nose. This will just make her stop growling and start biting. I agree with the previous poster to get Ian Dunbars book!
Also, a mother dog ONLY picks up their puppy by it's neck when it it newborn and weighs only ounces. They know that when the pup is older it WILL hurt them!!! Do not pick it up that way, always cradle its whole body when you pick it up.
Never pick up a full grown dog by its neck. A light grab on the neck fat maybe, like another dog's warning bite - but not to haul the animal around. Puppies can be carried that way because they're light, that's it, and not for very long.
And I don't agree with hitting a dog on the nose, regardless of whether you think 'it hurts him' or not. You're teaching your dog to fear you. Violence does beget violence and I guarantee one day you'll come out second best to it.
Start with some positive messages like food rewards or look up clicker training. Anything but what you're doing now.
