The general guideline I've heard is that puppies can "hold it" 1 hour plus 1 hour for each month old they are.

For example, a 2 month old puppy can be home alone for 3 hours. Your puppy should be at least 5 months old to be home without you for 6 hours.

Of course this will vary depending on the dog. If you are having trouble with housebreaking, you'll have to take them out much more often than the guideline.

I never had much of a problem leaving puppies 4-5 hours at 7 weeks. Still, it would be better if you could find a neighbor or professional dog walker to give it a break. When it is older, look into doggy day care.
