can I give my german shepherd aspirin for hip pain. He has hip dysplasia

I would stick to baby aspirin (81mg). You can probably give 2 at a time, a couple of times a day. If your dog has HD though you might want to see your vet about a stronger anti inflammatory like Rimadyl or Deramaxx.

Try adding glucosamine/chondroitin to his diet. I personally use Flexicose with my Weimaraner. There have also been studies done using Ester C in dogs with HD who have shown improvement on that therapy.

My German Shepherd also has this. The vet suggested Ascriptin, you give one a day. There are also joint supplements you can get that help somewhat ( depending on the severity) . You can purchase the Ascriptin at Wal-Mart. I noticed a significant improvement in my Shepherd after starting her on these.
