Can dogs eat watermelon rind?

Last night my dog starting eating a watermelon rind. She seemed to like it very much. Our friend's dog did too. I haven't seen anything on the Internet that says rinds are unsafe for dog, so is it okay for our dogs to eat watermelon rind?

I would discourage it. Likely at worst it will cause a digestive upset. But on the other hand, it is only sometime in the last 10 years we discovered grapes and raisins were highly dangerous. If it doesn't come out of a dog food bag, your dog is better off without it. Saves trying to remember what all is OK and what isn't.
