I would advise against it. There are many common foods, drugs and chemicals in the human world that can be harmful, even deadly, to various animals. Not only that, their senses are very different from ours and even if it isn't chemically harmful, it may smell or taste FOUL to dogs or other pets. Check with vets & petstores. Good luck!

♥ DEOGIE ♥

Dogs cannot spit, so they will swallow human tastepaste, which is not edible. This is also why children under the age of 2 should not be using toothpaste. The fluoride is not good for a small child or dog. It will definitely upset their tummy, or could possible make him very ill depending on how much is ingested.
All pet stores should have doggy toothpaste that comes in a few flavors, which can swallowed and not harm your pet.
I use finger toothbrushes for Deogie. He enjoys his tongue rubbed as well.
Have a good one.

Bam-Bam, CGC

If your dog is receiving proper nutrition from a food that works for him/her, his breath will not stink much at all. I can say from personal experience that sometimes I don't even think Bam-Bam has "breath"... It just doesn't smell, so I can't say he has good breath, but he doesn't have bad breath either.

As for teeth brushing, everybody else told you the right stuff about this. Human toothpaste is not made for dogs. That is why they make doggy toothpaste. Bam-Bam gets his teeth brushed 2 or so times a week just to make sure we aren't getting any sort of build up and his teeth are in tip top shape!

You can buy dog toothpaste at basically any pet store...PetSmart and PetCo both have them for sure!

Baxter

You should get a tooth paste for dogs. Pet smart or petco has meat flavored paste for dogs. Regular human paste is not good. And it can't be ingested.
They also make toothbrushes for dogs. They come in different sizes and the handle is longer so they don't chomp down on your finger.

Just give your dog good chew toys and raw bones and odds are you won't have to brush his teeth. My dogs teeth are sparkling clean from chewing on his nylabone, bully sticks and beef bones.
Go to the pet store and find something he likes.
