Are rope leashes normal for mastiff breeds?

Is it common for an owner of a bullmastiff/French female to walk or do anything with her dog, while she is on a rope leash? Is it harmful. Or is it common for owners of the mastiff breed to use them?

Are you talking about rope leashes that are clipped to a standard collar, or rope leash-collar combination leashes that are basically a slip collar and rope lead in one?

I don't see why any leash, including a rope leash, would be "harmful" to a dog - it's simply a way of holding on to and controlling your dog. I personally find rope leads to be more comfortable on the hands, whereas nylon leashes can tear up your hands if your dog pulls.

I found a 10ft climbing rope one time and turned it into a dog leash. It's the most comfortable leash I've ever owned and the one I use most.

I often use a horse lead rope on my larger dogs.

1. They are soft and comfortable to hold for me
2. the clasp to attach to a collar or harness is VERY sturdy too.

Nothing wrong with using a horse lead rope for general dog walking on a larger dog. I do it..my dog doesn't mind it at all. I also feel a bit more safe that the leash will not break.

I went to this style of leash after so many made for dog leashes were under par. Plastic or, wimpy made metal clasps.

Just my opinion. :0)
