Any special things to know when on airplane with service dog?

Should I feed her or give her water before we board. Or maybe not? She is a 20lb Westy Service Dog - so she sits with me.

Airlines require advanced notification.

Make sure your dog wears a solid color harness or vest,(NSAR recommends red, although there is no standard color), service animal patches, and a photo ID clipped to the leash or harness for easier identification that yours is a service dog.

Questions will be asked as to the kind of service dog that you have.

As to feeding, schedule feeding and elimination during lay-over.

How long is your flight? If it is long, you will need to give her a drink on the plane. Dogs can get restless leg syndrome like people, so ask when you get to the airport to have your seat changed to one directly behind a divider (if it is a big plane) for the dog to have more room. If you do not pay the fee in advance to the airline and bring your vet health certificate with you, they will still not let you fly, and this is pretty standard regardless if the dog is a guide or companion animal. ^_^ Happy travels...
