An 11yr old boxer/hound mix (female) and a 4yr old rottie/lab? mix (female) showing dominance with each other

both are really friendly and loving, and fairly well dog & people socialized. i.e. they are fine a dog parks, doggie day-care etc... not aggressive, but can be a little skittish. The problem is when they meet a new dog or dogs in a one-on-one situation, they show a lot of dominance with EACH OTHER. Growling, nose-to-butt stand-offs, jumping up on each others shoulders, etc... becoming oblivious to the new dog who supposedly started the commotion. - we've recently brought home a 1yr old Bassett Hound pup who is as loving and easy going as they come. He doesn't seem bothered by either of them, but they can get pretty worked up. In that state they don't respond to verbal commands, and when I try to separate them physically, it seems to escalate the tension. How can I prevent, or discipline to stop this behavior???
