after eating a treat called "better than ears" my dog started having severe diarrhea. It's been 3 weeks and she lost 8 l

She has seen the vet who prescribed metronidazole and diphenoxylate but she was able to take only 3 doses of it, because she stopped eating. She circles in the yard, strains, and a tiny drop of poop come out and that's it. She does this 20, 30 min. at a time.

Don't hate me when I say this but try holding off on food for 24 hours. No food, treats, rice, etc for 24 hours. Only give her a 1/4 cup of water at a time. If you let her constantly drink tons of water it will not help the diarrhea. You need to be careful though, because if she still is having tons of diarrhea she may need subcutaneous fluids (to help her get re-hydrated). Sometimes drinking water just isn't enough. After the 24hrs you can cook some boiled chicken and rice and start feeding that to her slowly. At first sign of her starting to get normal stools you can slowly add in her old food. Still holding off on treats. Let your vet know that this is still going on and bring her in if she feels uncomfortable.

I have seen these same symptoms with my dog and others when eating "Busy Bone" by Purina. Watch out for those too!

If she is straining she may have a blockage. I would get her back to the vet. Withholding food for 12 - 24 hours is a good idea. Make sure she has plenty of water. Good Luck!
