after a boxer bitch has puppies how long do we have before her next heat cycle?

we are wanting to get her fixed but are unsure when is the best time and we want to do it before she gets pregnant again to prevent any unresponsible pregnancy

As soon as the puppies are weaned, just get her fixed. If you can't do it that soon, then just be prudent about keeping her away from other dogs.

I agree with Bam-Bam CGC...If you can just get her fixed after the pups are weened...Dogs vary as to how long it will be until they go into heat again.

A female dog normally goes in heat every 6 months so if gestation takes 2 months then once the puppies are born, you have 4 months left before she will come back into season. My best advice is to have her fixed once the puppies are 5 weeks or older. As long as they are fully weaned and the mother is healthy, you are safe to have her fixed. This will prevent you from having to go through another heat cycle and risk another oops. There are a lot of studies and stats out now that having your dog spayed will prevent ovarian and mammary cancer. This alone makes it worth spaying her!
