3 yr old Weimaraner with severe anxiety
We have a three year old male Weimaraner and we're having issues with his severe anxiety. If we are not present, he will jump onto the counters (pull whatever is up there-food or otherwise) down and eat/chew it. This never occurs while we are at home but if he is unattended for too long, it happens.
Unfortunately, we also can not crate him for damage to himself and the crate and when placed outside, he begins to panic. He digs and whines loudly. We are now getting complaints from our neighbors regarding his whining. HELP! We are both young professionals and are really struggling with managing this degree of anxiety and stress.
Ps. Doctor suggested Benadryl for his allergies and anxiety and it only works for two hours.

I would try a behaviorist. At least a consult might give you some insight. Good Luck!

I'm against using meds for dogs and high-priced new-aged "dog therapists". I would suggest trying more simple, practicle strategies.
Start by placing a piece of clothing that you recently wore in his crate and leaving the crate door open for him to come and go as he pleases while you are away. This way he has your scent to comfort him while you are gone, and is not confined by a closed door to the crate.
There are also some great long-lasting chew toys these days that can keep him occupied while you are away. Try a Kong of your choice or an Ever Last Treat Toy/Ball.
Hope this helps:)
